Accelerating a Culture of Sustainable Procurement through Staff Engagement and Training

Creating a culture of sustainable procurement can be accelerated by using multiple communications channels, offering training programs, and providing ongoing mentorship and advisory support. Making sustainable procurement expertise accessible to staff new to embedding sustainability into procurement is a critical success factor. Internal sustainable procurement leads have an important role in identifying and supporting sustainability champions across the organization, engaging widely on the value proposition, promoting opportunities to deliver on specific corporate sustainability goals through procurement, and working collaboratively to systematize the integration of sustainability within existing procurement processes. Panelists from the Municipal Collaboration for Sustainable Procurement, City of Mississauga, King County and Alameda County will share unique approaches to delivering training and supporting procurement processes, sharing results and lessons learned. Participants will take away a Communications and Training Strategy Tool and other resources offered by the panelists.
