Sustainable Purchasing 202: Setting Strategic Sustainable Purchasing Goals and Metrics

Atrium Ballroom

Setting goals in a vacuum can mean that your efforts may fail to either have significant impact and/or to contribute to building your program in a strategic way. This workshop will provide a high-level overview of the goal setting process in the context of a sustainable purchasing vision; and then provide participants with hands-on practice applying that process in a meaningful way to their own organization.  Participants will work within their sector of peers to document existing impact priorities, organizational alignments, and sustainable purchasing activities. They will then practice brainstorming goals for their activities, and get help from their peers in prioritizing 2-3 of these goals by impact and feasibility, preparing them for sketching out metrics to evaluate success in meeting those goals.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understand how to organize your sustainable purchasing activities more strategically
  • Gain exposure to sustainable purchasing priorities, activities and goals in your sector
  • Recognize a structured approach in establishing achievable goals with multi-dimensional impact
  • Obtain experience setting right-sized goals for your organization regardless of your organization’s maturity.
