Sustainable Purchasing 301: Measuring Impact: Using a Roadmap Approach to Develop KPIs and Metrics for your Highest Priorities

Atrium Ballroom

You’ve just been handed a “top-down” goal to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions of your purchasing by 20%. Or maybe you’ve been tracking waste reduction and supplier diversity progress and have been asked to leverage this work to create a set of “bottom up” impact-focused goals. Where do you even begin?

Impact-focused metrics and KPIs ensure you can tell whether your strategies are moving the needle on reducing negative impacts, increasing positive ones, and building your capacity to do more. This session will provide participants with an iterative approach to developing appropriate metrics for impact-focused measurement of your program strategies.

Hear actual stories of organizations that have already developed impact-focused goals and metrics for their purchasing. Then, get hands-on experience developing a metrics and goals development roadmap for one of your key sustainable purchasing impact priorities.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understand key considerations in developing metrics and KPIs for your program
  • Gain exposure to how organizations are embedding impact-focused metrics and KPIs into their purchasing processes.
  • Get hands-on experience applying these practices into your own set of sustainable purchasing program strategies

Prerequisite:  Participants are highly encouraged (not required) to attend Setting Strategic Sustainable Purchasing Goals and Metrics prior to this session.
