The Role of Procurement in Achieving a Sustainable Workplace – from Office to Building

Skyline I/II

The move to high performance buildings and sustainable workspaces has many documented benefits including a healthier and more productive workforce, as well as direct cost savings from energy, water and building management efficiencies. There are many technologies to consider when looking to offer your employees a “sustainable” workspace – the laptops, monitors, servers, copy machines and smart phones that they rely on, as well as different options to consider when desiring a high-performance building. This panel will describe a holistic approach to procuring for sustainable workspaces, inclusive of buildings, and highlight how sustainable workspaces are increasingly an expectation of employees. Information about best practices and available tools, such as UL SPOT, will be provided. Session attendees are also invited to continue the discussion by attending an evening tour and talk at the Edith Green-Wendell Wyatt Federal Building, a LEED Platinum building in Portland which features a number of innovative sustainability attributes.
